Welcome to Everyday EMS Tips – my primary place for blogging, sharing resources, and connecting with other EMS professionals. If this is your first visit or you just found me recently I thought I would use this post to welcome you and bring you up to speed with some of the top content and resources available here. I also want to tell you a bit more about me.
What You Will Find Here
Since April 2009 I have posted nearly 600 articles at EverydayEMSTips.com. You will find reflections on patient encounters (that are true or loosely based on the truth), tips and tricks from me and other field professionals, product and book reviews, and encouragement to be physically, mentally, and financially healthy.

In my mind when I write I really see my target audience as EMT and Paramedic students, new EMS professionals, and new EMS educators. My hope is that I am sharing tips and tricks that will help you succeed and have a positive impact on your patients and co-workers. I also know that I have some regular visitors that are simply interested in medical stuff, fans of EMS, or are related to me.
How You Can Participate
Please stop by whenever you want. I usually add new posts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I also post other times when the spirit strikes me. I always appreciate reader comments with the post, by email, or through social networks. Subscribers receive an email with links to new posts every Wednesday. You can also add the RSS to your feed reader using the subscribe by RSS

I first became a medical first responder in 1996. While living in far northern Wisconsin I became an EMT in early 2000 to join the local fire department. We ran about 80 calls a year and frequently had transports of 30-45 minutes. In 2005 I completed a 9 month intensive paramedic program while working full-time and welcoming my first child, a son, with just six weeks of class left. What a year that was!
I still get into the field with a nearby 911 service. I enjoy the contact with patients and especially welcome shifts with students to ask them about how they are using elearning for their paramedic studies.
Outside of work my passions are my family, running, cycling, and just about anything else out-of-doors. I also plow through a lot of books and regularly post book reviews here.
Podcasts
I really enjoy creating podcasts. I am the co-host of the EMSEduCast – the podcast by and for EMS Educators. You don’t have to be a teacher to listen. Lots of students tell me they learn a lot by listening to educators talk about the hows’ and whys’ of education.
There is a rich collection of literature by EMS professionals. I started the Medical Author Chat to interview paramedics and other healthcare professionals that have written books about their experiences. I just love what they have to share. A few of my favorite episodes – Joseph Clark, Maggie Dubris, and Michael Anthony.
Jim Hoffman and I have collaborated on a variety of projects. EMSBootCamp.com is a series of online training programs. Jim hosts the EMS Office Hours podcast. I join him a few times a month to just chat about EMS news. You can call into the live broadcast. Click for upcoming episode dates and times.
