I recorded this video interview with Chris Montera at Pinnacle EMS 2010 in Miami for EMS1.com. In our conversation we discuss cheating in fire and EMS education, the responsibilities of students and educators, and the implications on content developers. Developing more engaging and interesting educational content often comes at the expense of time and energy I am expending to build the wall higher against cheating and fraud.

I am on my way to Miami for the Pinnacle EMS conference. This is my first time attending Pinnacle and I am looking forward to the focus on EMS administration, management, and leadership. Chris Montera, host of the EMS Garage podcast, is hosting a tweet-up Wednesday night at the Hemispheres Lounge at the Loews’s Hotel at 8 p.m. If you are at Pinnacle or in the Miami area please join us and say hello. Chris Cebollero, host of the EMS Leadership podcast, will also be there.

Last night I was recognized as one of ten innovators in EMS for 2010 by JEMS Magazine and Physio-Control. I am proud and humbled for “recognition for innovative thinking in EMS.”

I was nominated for the award for the EMSEduCast podcast – the only podcast by and for EMS educators. We have recorded more than 90 episodes with many more to come. Each week the podcast highlights EMS education topics for our listeners from around the world.

Early in 2009 I joined with Chris Montera, Buck Feris, and Rob Theriault to start the EMSEduCast – the podcast by and for EMS educators. One of the many great joys of this podcast has been our shows about EMS Education around the world. The similarities and the differences have been fascinating to me. Social media tools – blogging, podcasting, Facebook – have made it easier than ever for EMS professionals from around the world to connect with one another.

Here are a few podcasts and blogs to learn about EMS and EMS Education around the world:

EMSEduCast Episode 41 featured the organization Medical Teams International and their efforts to grow EMS systems in developing countries. Paul Bollinger from MTI introduced us to MTI’s Sri Lanka EMS team leader Nomi Nathan. Together they discussed the rapid development of the Sri Lanka EMS system since 2005, EMS professional levels, and EMS education opportunities.

EMSEduCast Episode 38 explored EMS education around the world – Switzerland, Germany, New Zealand, Canada, and US systems were discussed, contrasted, and compared.

EMSEduCast Episode 15 featured Peter Hartley, an EMS Educator, from Australia. Peter explained EMS structure and EMS education in the land down under.

EMSEduCast Episode 9 discussed why all EMS providers in Canada are called paramedics. Rob Theriault shared the history of EMS development in Canada.

Follow the Chronicles of EMS blog for the latest videos and news about the first EMS reality series that is by and about paramedics. The pilot episode was filmed in November in San Francisco featuring the bloggers theHappyMedic.com and Medic999.
