The Fit Responder Book from paramedic and licensed athletic trainer Bryan Fass is on sale until June 30, 2009. Visit the Fit Responder website to purchase the book.

I first read Fit Responder last fall. As a marathon runner and cyclist I am always looking for tips and techniques to improve my fitness, flexibility, and endurance. More importantly my health and safety on the job as a paramedic is number one. I want to make sure I have the strength and technique to make smart and safe lifting decisions.

On most of my shifts I use some of the simple exercises Bryan describes in Fit Responder to get in a quick flexibility or strength training exercise during the workday. I have also used his “tennis ball massage technique” many times. Most recently I had a bout of idiopathic thoracic back pain. It was not until I finished several “tennis ball massages” that the pain began to resolve. I am now using exercises Bryan describes to improve my core strength.
