Don’t Mess with the Texas EMT Patch

The Texas EMS patch is a red semi-rectangle with a silhouette of Texas in the middle. It can optionally include words like Texas Paramedic. As I mixed with the audience before my EMS World Expo presentation on Trends in Online Education I suggested to an attendee in uniform that his Texas EMS patch could use some modernizing – maybe a bit more color, sparkling embroidery, and boldness.

He emphatically responded, “That will never happen.”

He then described the identification requirements for uniformed EMS professionals

Then he again reminded me that the patch will never change.

I learned later that I had been casually offering my suggestions about the Texas EMS patch design to the Texas State EMS Director.
