One of the wisest teachers I have ever had once told me “if you read 30 minutes a day of the literature in your field you will be in the top 10% of your field.” I totally believe those words of wisdom. As an EMS professional you should be regularly reading:
- Professional and trade magazines like EMS Magazine and JEMS
- Academic journals like Prehospital Emergency Care
- Textbook chapters – being a peer reviewer of new EMS textbooks is a great way to stay up-to-date with textbook content without buying the text. (sometimes you even get paid)
- EMS professional blogs. FYI Tim Noonan is the Rogue Medic. His EMS blog is one of the best. Subscribe to the RSS feed. Make sure to read his comment replies to readers that leave comments.
The EMSEduCast also has a journal club. Listen to the first meeting of the journal club and join us live January 6 for the next episode of the EMSEduCast journal club. We will be discussing literature related to cardiac arrest and ALS/BLS education.
